I've been celebrating the Jewish Feasts for quite while now. They are such a splendid reminder that I serve the Ancient of Days, the One who reveals His secrets to His servants. (Amos 3:7) The Scriptures are clear that these are appointments with God and I certainly don't want to miss one of those!
Perhaps the most amazing part of the Feast cycle is their fulfillment in Yeshua AKA Jesus the Messiah. Each Old Testament Feast is an invitation to sit in AWE of the finished work of Jesus and the enormity of what He accomplished. In Leviticus 23, there is a complete breakdown of these feasts that are "to be a lasting ordiance for generations to come, wherever you live". The First of these Feasts is a remembrance of The Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread.
The first mention of this feast is in Exodus 12:1, "The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, 'This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for His family...'". So this month on the Hebrew calendar is the first month, the month of Nisan. For the Israelites, months were determined by the moon; they could simply look up and see when the new season had began by its phases. The new month was established at the New Moon, where two witnesses would begin a celebration at its sighting. The new month always began with a celebration.
However, the New Moon at the first Passover occured during a very dark time in history. It is commonly refered to as the Exodus, when the Israelites left the slavery of one season and passed over into a completely new time in history. This year, I feel like we are in that same boat. For that reason, I am using this blog to share my experiences of the Feast this year. Amazingly, the first mention of the Feast cycle taught in Exodus 12 names the 10th of Nisan as a significant day. That, my friends, happens to be tomorrow.....my 46th Birthday.
So this year, I will blog about the original feast and its subsequent fulfillment in Christ. I will primarily use the Book of John from the New Testament for my illustrations as this is the place where I first heard my Messiah's Voice.
I am excited about this endeavor and pray that you will join me. I will begin to unpack this starting tomorrow, the 10th of Nisan or April 3rd if you prefer the Greganian calendar. God Bless and may you experience your your own personal passover this year.
